‘Kashmir Resolution Must For Peace In South Asia’
NISAR AHMED THOKAR
Islamabad, Aug 15: Seeking international community’s attention towards the volatile situation along the Line of Control (LoC), Kashmiri leaders on Thursday stated that the looming threat of war between two nuclear neighbors would continue to haunt the people of South Asian region unless Kashmir issue is resolved.
“Kashmir happens to be the root cause of tension between India and Pakistan and the recent skirmishes on LoC are in fact the offshoots of this unresolved dispute that has been hanging fire for the last several decades”, Kashmiri leaders made these assertions while addressing a protest demonstration organized by APHC Pak chapter in front of UNMOGIP office in Islamabad.
The protest demonstration was joined by Kashmiri leaders from both sides of LoC including Choudhary Abdul Majeed, the prime minister of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK).
Speaking on the occasion they said it was high time that the world community should take pains and settle Kashmir issue to save the region from any eventuality of war between the two nuclear neighbors. They also appreciated the UN Secretary Ban Ki Moon’s recent statement on Kashmir and said, “It is heartening to note that the UN Secretary General is keenly monitoring the situation in Jammu Kashmir. But the volatile situation demands UN’s direct intervention to bring about a peaceful solution of Kashmir imbroglio”.
Regarding Indo-Pak dialogue and peace process they observed that the recent clashes on LoC have proved that a single firing incident on border could derail the peace process. Expressing concern over what they call India’s belligerent attitude the Kashmir leaders said that rather than creating war hysteria Indian leaders should get engaged in a constructive and meaningful dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir conflict peacefully by associating Kashmiris in the talks.
The speakers also denounced in strong terms the communal riots in Kishtwar and termed it a handiwork of intelligence agencies.

Referring to India’s Independence Day they said, “India is celebrating its Independence Day while the people of Kashmir mourn the death and destruction at the hands of Indian occupation forces”. They said that a country that has usurped the fundamental rights of millions of Kashmiris have no right whatsoever to celebrate Independence Day. The speakers also denounced in strong terms the communal riots in Kishtwar and termed it a handiwork of secret agencies.
