Salahuddin expresses dismay, supports Geelani’s strike call

ZUBIN MEHTA SHOW

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, Sep 5: The Chairman of United Jihad Council Syed Salahuddin on Thursday expressed dismay over the decision of the German embassy to hold Zubin Mehta concert at Shalimar garden in Srinagar.
“Since 1947, over half a million people have been killed by forces in Kashmir and about ten thousand Kashmiris have been subjected to enforced disappearances”, the UJC chief said in statement.
He stated that these gross and large-scale violations of human rights in the troubled region continued unabated.
Regarding Germany’s role in hosting the concert in “disputed territory”, Syed Salahuddin said, “The country that claims to be the champion of human rights did not even bother to send a fact-finding mission to take stock of the human rights situation in Kashmir.”
On the contrary, he said, that Germany did not find any ingloriousness in hosting a musical concert, which he said was meant to create an impression that the struggle in Kashmir had came to an end.
Terming it as a condemnable act on the part of Germany the UJC chairman maintained that the Germany’s role has been highly disappointing. Lending full support to strike call given by Hurriyat (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani he said, “By observing strike on 7th September the valiant people of Kashmir would send a clear cut message to the world that Kashmir is not an integral part of India.”
Expressing serious concern over Zubin Mehta concert, the vice-president of Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Saghar said that the event being hosted at the Shalimar Gardens in Srinagar is aimed at painting a rosy picture of Kashmir before the outside world.
Hailing Jammu and Kashmir Civil Society for organizing a parallel show Saghar said, “If German ambassador Michel Steiner is really a Kashmir lover then he along with his other associates must voluntarily visit the Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir concert being organized by civil society”. He said that Haqeeqat-e-Kashmir concert would certainly give the Steiner and his fellow visitors a real feeling of abysmal situation Kashmiris have been facing over the years.

Mehmood Saghar seeks support to resolve Kashmir

Pays Rich Tribute To Sheikh Abdul Aziz

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, Aug 19: Stressing the need for early resolution of Kashmir dispute, the vice president of Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar Monday said that given the security situation along the Line of Control it is important for the world community to come forward “in a big way to help resolve the long pending dispute of Kashmir to put an end to the years-long conflict in the region.”
Saghar, the former convener of APHC-M (Pak chapter) made these assertions while speaking at a prayer-function held in connection with the martyrdom anniversary of veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz who was killed on 11 August 2008 near Uri while he was heading a peace march against the economic blockade to Kashmir. “The decades-old dispute continues to hamper bilateral relations between the two South Asian arch rivals,” he said, adding it was high-time that world powers acknowledge the gravity of issue and use their influence to bring about an amicable solution of Kashmir imbroglio.
“It is imperative that the world community shuns its policy of indifference towards Kashmir and plays its much-needed role to settle the dispute once and for all,” he said.
Lauding the supreme sacrifices of Sheikh Aziz, Saghar said the deceased leader was a man of honesty and integrity.
Appreciating the US state department official’s recent statement on Kashmir, Saghar said the statement “vindicated the pro-freedom leaders’ long-held position on Kashmir.” “Sooner or later India will have to swallow the bitter pill, thereby accepting the Kashmiris’ right to self-determination,” he said.
Earlier Quran Khwani, Fateh and special prayer function was held at the DFP office in Islamabad.
The function was attended by Muhammad Usaman the deputy chairman of United Jihad Council, DFP activist Asrar Hussain Mir, Nazir Ahmed Ganderbali, Advocate Mir Bashir, Muhammad Shafi, Hibullah chief Javed Wani, Showkat Ahmed Bhat and several others.

No -more hollow slogans please: Kashmiri leaders to Pak

'Road from Kabul to Delhi passes through Kashmir'

General Zia-ul- Haq remembered

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, Aug 18: Expressing concern over the prevailing political and security situation in Pakistan speakers at a seminar hosted by Zia-ul-Haq foundation here on Saturday said that “inconsistent policies and incompetent ruling class” had pushed the country into the quagmire of uncertainty.
The seminar held in connection with 25th death anniversary of former president Zial-ul-Haq, the seminar entitled as “Pakistan and the Contemporary Challenges” was addressed by the Chairman of Muslim League (Z) Ejaz Haq, former ISI chief General (retired) Hameed Gul, former PaK premier Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, DFP vice president Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, APHC-G convener G M Safi, JI chief Abdul Rasheed Turabi, veteran religious scholar Moulana Sami-ul-Haq and others.
Referring to the present situation in the country, speakers on the occasion said that over the last several years Pakistani ruling elite had not been able to overcome the daunting challenges faced by the country both at internal as well as external level. “The lack of visionary leadership in the country and inconsistency in the national policies caused massive damage to the country during the recent years”, they said.
Comparing General Zia with present lot of military and political leaders who ruled the country they said Zia was the man of integrity who strengthened the two nation theory by making Jinnah’s Pakistan highly invincible.
Regarding General Zia’s role in aiding and abetting Afghan Mujahideen the JI Chief Abdul Rasheed Turabi said that the Zia’s biggest contribution was the renaissance of Jihadi movements. He said that it was the wisdom and foresightedness of General Zia that changed the course of history in the region.
Flaying the Pakistani ruler’s see-sawing policy towards Afghanistan and Kashmir he said that it was unfortunate that Pakistan first acknowledged the Taliban regime and then turned its back on them. Similarly he said that the Pakistani rulers have been witnessing situation in Kashmir like mute spectators. This policy of retreat he said had adversely affected Kashmir movement and Pakistan itself.
Sardar Attique the president of Muslim Conference while highlighting late Zia’s courageous role and his services for Pakistan said that it was astonishing to note that media describes General Zia as a dictator and does not talk about Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto who used to call himself as a civilian chief martial law administrator. He said that there was a strange situation in the country where it was being deliberately portrayed in the media that political parties and army were two separate things (entities). “We see from Katmandu to Canada the political parties and the army work in unison and unfortunately it is only Pakistan where situation is quite different”, he said.
Regarding the democracy and democratic institutions in the country he said, “We have great respect for democracy and the parliament but this democracy should not assume the importance of a religion”, he said.
About India Pakistan relations he said, “We are not against Indo-Pak relations but what we want is that this relationship should be on equal terms”. He said that the Pakistani rulers today afraid to mention Kashmir in their speeches.
The DFP vice president Mehmood Ahmed Saghar on the occasion said that the Kashmiris have suffered due to inconsistent policies by Pakistani rulers. Lambasting Pakistani intellectuals he said, “It was unfortunate that some so-called pseudo intellectuals have been terming Kashmir as a burden on Pakistan”.
He said Kashmiris have offered tremendous sacrifices for Pakistan over the past several years. He said that Kashmiri people as well as the political leadership have undergone trials and tribulations over the years. “World talks about Nelson Mandela but they don’t talk about hundreds of Kashmiri Mandelas who have spent more than 29 years in jails in and outside Kashmir”, he maintained. He was of the view that Kashmiris were sick of hollow sloganeering and “It is time for Pakistani leadership to shun their silence and come up with a coherent and convincing policy on the issue of Kashmir”, he added.
Addressing the gathering Hameed Gul one of the close confidantes of former president said that Zia was a thorn in the American’s side for a long time. “They (Americans) were fearful that Zia would enforce Islamic Shaira in the country and that is why he fell victim to international conspiracy”, he said. He maintained that Americans first said that the General Zia’s plane crash was a result of technical failure involving dysfunction of Hydraulic Pumps. Later he said that the plane in which Zia and other generals were traveling was entirely destroyed but the Hydraulic Pumps, which according to American expert’s report were dysfunctional, were recovered in original shape and there was no fault in the pumps. He rejected the news report published in the country leading English Daily yesterday and said that deliberate attempts were being made to blot out America’s role in this entire game by publishing such unfounded reports.
Terming Pakistan as an unfinished revolution he said that it was Zia’s sole mission to give final shape to this unfinished revolution that was kicked off several years ago. “It (Pak) is not just a piece of land on the Earth; it is something very special”, he said.
On Kashmir, the former ISI chief said, the Kashmiri leaders concerns were genuine and it is time that the government should adopt a clear-cut policy on the issue. Gul who has been a strong proponent of Kashmiris resistance movement against India said that the incumbent government should convey India the message that the road from New-Delhi to Kabul goes from Kashmir.
He also lambasted the Pakistani media saying that “We like bold media but not the sold media”.
In his concluding speech Ejaz-ul-Haq reiterated his pledge upheld the mission of his father to make Pakistan a peaceful and prosperous country.

PaK PM joins APHC protest in Islamabad

‘Kashmir Resolution Must For Peace In South Asia’

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, Aug 15: Seeking international community’s attention towards the volatile situation along the Line of Control (LoC), Kashmiri leaders on Thursday stated that the looming threat of war between two nuclear neighbors would continue to haunt the people of South Asian region unless Kashmir issue is resolved.
“Kashmir happens to be the root cause of tension between India and Pakistan and the recent skirmishes on LoC are in fact the offshoots of this unresolved dispute that has been hanging fire for the last several decades”, Kashmiri leaders made these assertions while addressing a protest demonstration organized by APHC Pak chapter in front of UNMOGIP office in Islamabad.
The protest demonstration was joined by Kashmiri leaders from both sides of LoC including Choudhary Abdul Majeed, the prime minister of Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK).
Speaking on the occasion they said it was high time that the world community should take pains and settle Kashmir issue to save the region from any eventuality of war between the two nuclear neighbors. They also appreciated the UN Secretary Ban Ki Moon’s recent statement on Kashmir and said, “It is heartening to note that the UN Secretary General is keenly monitoring the situation in Jammu Kashmir. But the volatile situation demands UN’s direct intervention to bring about a peaceful solution of Kashmir imbroglio”.
Regarding Indo-Pak dialogue and peace process they observed that the recent clashes on LoC have proved that a single firing incident on border could derail the peace process. Expressing concern over what they call India’s belligerent attitude the Kashmir leaders said that rather than creating war hysteria Indian leaders should get engaged in a constructive and meaningful dialogue with Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir conflict peacefully by associating Kashmiris in the talks.
The speakers also denounced in strong terms the communal riots in Kishtwar and termed it a handiwork of intelligence agencies.

Referring to India’s Independence Day they said, “India is celebrating its Independence Day while the people of Kashmir mourn the death and destruction at the hands of Indian occupation forces”. They said that a country that has usurped the fundamental rights of millions of Kashmiris have no right whatsoever to celebrate Independence Day. The speakers also denounced in strong terms the communal riots in Kishtwar and termed it a handiwork of secret agencies.
Later a memorandum addressed to the UN Secretary General was submitted to the UNMOGIP officials wherein the highest body was urged to discharge its moral and legal obligation vis-à-vis Kashmir. The memorandum also demanded India to allow access to UN mandate holders and Human Right NGOs to monitor and document the human rights situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, APHC-G Pak chapter, Pasbani Hurriyat, Kashmir Liberation Cell (KLC) and other political parties of PaK held similar protest rallies in Muzaffarabad to seek international community’s attention towards the unresolved Kashmir dispute. Break silence over Kashmir: NRKs to Nawaz Sharif

NISAR AHMED THOKAR

Islamabad, July 19: The Kashmiri leaders hailing from both sides of the Line of control on Friday urged the newly sworn in government of Pakistan led by Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif to break its silence and raise Kashmir issue vociferously at international level.
Addressing a seminar hosted by APHC-M PaK chapter in connection with 19th July (Accession to Pakistan Day), the speakers on the occasion said that no doubt Pakistan was going through tough times but it does not mean that the government should compromise on the core issue of Kashmir or leave it on the backburner. “There can be no compromise on Kashmir and their inalienable right to self-determination,” they said.
“No Pakistani ruler or any political party can afford to ignore the Kashmiris’ legitimate right as the fact is that Pakistan itself came into existence through right of self-determination,” they said adding that any compromise whatsoever on this issue would tantamount to weaken the very foundation of Pakistan.
Highlighting the years’ long political struggle and the sacrifices of Kashmiris, they said that even in most difficult situations Kashmiris have remained steadfast on their resolve.

Islamabad, July 13: Stressing the need for a peaceful resolution of Kashmir dispute, speakers at a seminar hosted by APHC-M PaK chapter on Saturday observed that the decades’ long old unresolved dispute of Kashmir has the potential to re-ignite flames of conflict between India and Pakistan.
“Kashmir has been the main cause of hostility and animosity between India and Pakistan and this issue in fact caused both the nations to go to war at least three times since 1947”, the speakers said while addressing the seminar, which was held to pay homage to Kashmiri martyrs of July 13, 1931. The conference was attended by senior journalists, civil society representatives and the leaders of political and religious parties from across the Line of Control.
Paying rich tributes to Kashmiri martyrs, speakers on the occasion pointed out that 13th July incident was a unique incidence in the entire Islamic History wherein 21 Kashmiris one after the other offered their lives to accomplish Azan (the call to prayer). Terming this incident as milestone of Kashmiris’ ongoing struggle for right to self-determination they said the people of the troubled region have been struggling for their democratic rights over the past several decades. They said that the years-long struggle and the sacrifices of the Kashmiri nation demand that the leadership should get united for the greater cause saying that the discontent and disarray within the separatist leadership had adversely affected the cause of Kashmir both at local as well as the international level.
Referring to the changing world scenario they said that at this very crucial stage collectivism and togetherness at the leadership-level was must to take the nation out of dark prospects of despondency and pandemonium. Highlighting the importance of broad-based unity they said that there was a dire need that the leadership across the divide (LoC) should retrospect and determine its future course of action in line with the changes sweeping across the globe. “It is time to speak the truth and call a spade a spade even if it is unpleasant”, they maintained. “Policies remain changing however the basic principles remain unaltered”, they said adding that the leadership across the board should sit together and devise a comprehensive policy without compromising the fundamental principles that provide a strong basses to the movement.
Regarding the Indo-Pak dialogue they said that in principle Kashmiris have never opposed the dialogue process between the two countries. “But the dialogue should not be at the cost of Kashmiris sacrifices”, they said.
Expressing serious concern over the Pakistani government’s indifference towards Kashmir issue, they said that the incumbent regime seems over enthusiastic in establishing bilateral relations with India.  To the contrary they said that there has been no response whatsoever from the government of India. Kashmiris had pinned high hopes on the newly established government in Pakistan but it was astonishing to note that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif whose ancestors have traveled from Kashmir did not utter even a single word on Kashmir during his recent visit to Muzaffarabad. “The Prime Minister did not even mention Kashmir during his maiden speech in the parliament”, they said.
Of those who spoke on the occasion included JI chief Abdul Rashid Turabi, Kahlid Ibraheem President Jammu Kashmir Peoples Party, Sagheer Chugtai of Muslim Conference, Murtaza Durani Press Secretary to PaK premier, Bakhat Zameen chief of Al-Badr, Iftikhar Ahmed Dawat-ul-Irshad, veteran writer and columnist Ershad Mehmood, PTI leader Moin Ahmed, APHC convener Syed Yousuf Naseem, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Tufail Altaf, Saleem Haroon of JKLF, Hassan-ul-Bana, Abdul Majeed Malik, Advocate Pervez Ahmed Shah and several others.

APHC-G convenes meeting
Meanwhile, the APHC-G Pak chapter during a meeting with its Convener Ghulam Muhammad Safi in chair paid homage to 1931, July 13 martyrs and said their sacrifices won’t go waste. The participants reiterated their resolve to uphold the mission of Kashmiri martyrs.
The meeting was attended by Muhammad Farooq Rehmani, Ishtiaq Hameed, Abdul Majeed, Muhammad Khateeb, Adeel Mushtaq, Pervez Ahmad Shah and Mehmood Ahmad.

Saghar aghast over killing of Kashmiri youth

Nisar Ahmed Thokar
Islamabad, July 01 - 2013 : Denouncing the killing of two Kashmiri youth by Indian army in Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the vice president of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party Mehmood Ahmed Saghar has said, “Kashmir has become a killing field where innocent civilians are being killed by Indian troops without any rhyme and reason.”
Saghar in a statement in Islamabad said, under the protection of draconian laws like AFSPA, POTA and TADA, without any inkling of accountability the Indian troops continue to wreak havoc in the territory. Terming black laws as major cause of human rights violations in Kashmir.
He said, “Despite repeated calls from Kashmiri civil society and demands from the international human rights organizations India had failed to repeal black laws enforced in the territory". To the contrary he said it was astonishing to note that the Indian army had declared AFSPA as a “holy book” for its trigger-happy forces deployed in the length and breadth of Kashmir. The DFP vice president said that during the month of June Indian troops had killed 11 Kashmiris. “And killing of two innocent youth is yet another horrific incident that left the entire valley completely shell-shocked”, he added.
Flaying Indian authorities for imposing undue restrictions on Hurriyet leaders he said that such tactics used by India won’t stop pro-freedom leadership from pursuing their collective cause. Expressing his serious concern over the prevailing human rights situation in Kashmir Saghar said that it was high time that the world human rights bodies should take stock of the worsening situation in the disputed territory and exert pressure on India to stop human rights abuse perpetrated by its troops in Kashmir.

Salahuddin urges separatists to unite

Pays tributes to slain Hizb militants

Muzaffarabad, July 2: The chairman of United Jihad Council (UJC), Syed Salahuddin has said the sacred-blood of Kashmiri martyrs demands that the separatist leadership must forge unity and come forward with a unified approach to convey an unambiguous message to India that Kashmiris were one and united on the issue of right to self-determination.
The UJC chief made these assertions while addressing a special session of Hizb Command Council here on Tuesday. Referring to three Hizb militants who died during an encounter at Tral in south Kashmir on Monday Salahuddin said, “The martyrdom of Mujahideen amply demonstrates the fact that every Hizb activist and commander is committed to Kashmir cause and they are ready to sacrifice their precious lives to achieve this noble cause”. “Martyrdom is our own preferred course, path, and let the world know that the freedom loving people of Kashmir are at the back of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen”, he said adding that the mission of martyrs would be upheld and carried forward at all costs. Urging the separatists to adopt a joint course of action the Hizb supreme commander said, “At this critical phase of movement the pro-freedom leadership should adopt a united and unified approach to honour the sacrifices rendered by the Kashmiri martyrs.”
Suggesting political opportunists not to waste their time Salahuddin made it clear that good governance, economic packages and so called political reforms were not any solution to the lingering Kashmir dispute. He said that all these things were meaningless for Kashmiris saying that the one and only demand of Kashmiri people was to settle the dispute in line with their wishes and aspirations.
Urging the incumbent government of Pakistan to stick to its principled stance on the issue of Kashmir Syed Salahuddin said that instead of forging unilateral friendship with India the newly sworn in government of Pakistan should evolve a coherent and convincing diplomatic policy on the issue. The Hizb command council on the occasion paid rich tributes to the Hizb fighters who were killed in Tral on Monday.
