Islamabad, Apr 20: Renowned writer and Liberation League stalwart, Advocate Chudhary Muhammad Sharif Tariq passed away after a protracted illness in Pakistan Administered Kashmir’s southern city of Mirpore. He was 76.
Tariq breathed his last at his residence in Mirpore a day before yesterday and was laid to eternal rest at the city’s graveyard (Gulzar Qabristan Mirpore). Talking to Greater Kashmir the president of Liberation League and former chief justice of PaK said that a large number of people including politicians, members of the civil society, judges and lawyers community participated in the funeral prayers of the deceased.
Hailing from Poonch, Advocate Chudhary was born on 14 March 1936 at Kalapan. After receiving early education from his native town, Tariq did his bachelors from Kashmir University and earned a Degree in Law from prestigious Aligarh University in 1962.Tariq actively participated in “resistance movement” in Muslim dominated areas of Poonch-Rajouri in mid 60s. Latter he migrated to PaK and got settled in the lake view city of Mirpore, where he started practicing law to earn livelihood for his family. In 1976, he formally joined J&K Liberation League led by K H Khursheed and following the tragic death of Khursheed-e-Millat in 1988, Sharif was appointed as president of the party. Advocate Sharif Tariq had been one of four candidates who contested presidential elections in PaK. The liberation league leader has authored several books that including “Kashmir in strangulation, Khoni Lakeer, Jabr-e-Musalsal and Haj ka Safar”.
Meanwhile, president Liberation League, Justice (Retd) Majeed Malik while expressing sorrow over the demise said the deceased would be remembered for a long time in the annals of Kashmir history for his valuable contribution in social and political and literary services. Senior Leftist leader and columnist, Comrade Krishen Dev Sethi has also condoled the demise and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
